Saona Island is a 42-square-kilometer oasis off the southern coast of the Dominican Republic. Originally called “Adamanay” by the Taíno people, the island was renamed by Christopher Columbus during his second voyage to the Americas in 1494. The name “Saona” honors his friend Michele da Cuneo, from Savona, Italy.
This is one of the country’s most famous beaches, known for its white sands, turquoise waters, and tropical palm trees. We’ll take you to the island on a speedboat, which includes a stop at a natural pool with crystal-clear waters in the middle of the sea. Once we arrive on Saona Island, you’ll have plenty of options, such as swimming in the calm waters, visiting the open-air bar, taking a nap in a beach hammock, playing volleyball, enjoying a delicious traditional lunch, or strolling along the shore. Chances are, you’ll do it all!
